Sermon on July 31, 2016 - Speaker: Kamilah Hill Sharp
“When You Can’t Un-See" (John 9: 1-11) If we hear Jesus and believe in Jesus, we should want to be more like Jesus. If we are going to be like Jesus, we must have a meta-ethic of love. For us to be more like Jesus, we must work the works of the one who sent us. Jesus says he is the light of the world. That light has been shined upon us and now must come through us for others to see. And when that light shines through you, you become filled with compassion and understanding. When that light shines through you, you cannot un-see that each and every person is a child of the loving God we serve. |
Sermon on July 24, 2016 - Speaker: Dr. Wyatt E. Fenno
“Blessed to Be a Blessing” (Matthew 5:13-16) The love of God awakens us to the life of God and the experience of being loved by God. As a church family, what we share together is special—because the life we share together is sacred. We, as the church, have been called together by Christ to make a difference—we have been blessed to be a blessing! Because of God’s grace, you and I can now be compelled by a cross-formed mindset of selfless, sacrificial love that inspires us to be kind, caring, and compassionate people who pursue a “love one another” and “love your neighbor” kind of faith. |
Sermon on July 17, 2016 - Speaker: Dr. Wyatt E. Fenno
THE “MINDSET” OF CHRIST (Philippians 2:1-11) The “mindset” of Jesus Christ is to be the blueprint or pattern for our lives. The attitude of Jesus Christ displayed on the cross is characterized by self-surrender, self-renunciation, and self-sacrifice. So then, just as Jesus poured himself out in selfless, sacrificial love, so we, too, are called to empty ourselves. As we follow the example of Jesus Christ, you and I learn to pour ourselves out in love—even at the loss of our own privileges—as we value others above ourselves and focus our attention on the needs and concerns of others. |
Sermon on July 3, 2016 - Speaker: Dr. Wyatt E. Fenno
“GO AND DO LIKEWISE” (Luke 10:25-37) The God who invites us to live life with him embraces the opportunity to live life with us! The Parable of the Good Samaritan teaches us that when you and I love God with all of our heart, soul, strength, and mind, then our love for God will be seen in all the ways we act to “love our neighbor” by offering kindness, compassion, and mercy to them. |
